It is with great sadness that we have received the news of the death of Jill Wright.
Gosport Labour Councillor Jill Wright passed away on 3rd October 2017, following a debilitating illness.
Jill had served as a Gosport Borough Councillor for 16 years firstly representing Rowner Ward and then Bridgemary South Ward following boundary reorganisation. This was from 1997 to 2008. Jill was elected to the Council again in 2012 representing Bridgemary North until now.
Jill was the wife of Councillor Dennis Wright.
She served as Mayoress in 2001/2 and was for many years Chair of the Housing Committee. She had a passion for helping people with Housing problems.
She became well known to many Bridgemary residents through her work over 26 years as the Practice Manager at Bridgemary Medical Centre.
For many years Jill was the Treasurer of Gosport Labour Party.
Jill’s funeral will be on Monday October 23rd at Portchester Crematorium at 1115 and after at the Fareham Bowling Club Palmerston Drive Fareham.
She will be sadly missed by all at the Gosport Labour Party.
Jill Wright was an exceptional person, she believed in a fairer society and strove for the highest standards. We will miss her greatly in the Labour Group and Party. Her commitment to the residents she represented and to improving the services to all especially in housing was second to none. We have lost a colleague and a friend who has made a real difference. Her courage over the last few months showed the strength of her character and our thoughts are with Dennis and his family at this very sad time.
June Cully Councillor and Leader of the Labour Group
