Gosport Labour Party remains a ‘broad church’, that is a local party which includes and welcomes members with a wide range of left-wing views. The resignation from the party of seven of our MPs and the continuing media storm around anti-semitism are clearly not good news. Equality and respect for others are core Labour values. Throughout its history Labour has led the way against all forms of discrimination.
It’s worth saying that most of Gosport’s 400+ members have joined since the 2015 General Election, the majority since Jeremy Corbyn became leader. We were united by the 2017 General Election manifesto, built around urgently-needed change, social justice and an economy rebalanced ‘for the many not the few’. It offered a clear socialist alternative to the damaging austerity policies of the Conservative government and won widespread popular support.
