Emma Smith for Elson
Family and community are very important to me. I became a BFN (breastfeeding network) volunteer shortly after my daughter was born, offering support locally at Blake’s and in the War Memorial, helping new mothers make informed choices about the options they have feeding their babies.
I am also Treasurer of the Leesland School PTA and have been working with the other volunteers and supporters to put on fun events for the children and raise money for projects such as the Leesland School swimming pool.
My biggest concern for young families is the cut in funding for schools. There are now fewer teachers and therefore larger class sizes than when I was at school. Our schools suffer budgets cut year on year, not the future I want for our children. It is important that we invest in the younger generations in order to have a successful country in the future.
I joined the Labour Party because I really do want to see a council and a government that works ‘for the many not the few’.
If you vote for me in the election in May, I will be your voice in the council. Our Conservative-run council have ignored us for too long and we need to be heard.
